Brown Butter Apple Galette

Simple and Delicious Brown Butter Apple Galette

This Brown butter Apple Galette is a sweet treat of sweet, tart Apples and spice wrapped into amazing Brown butter flavored flaky golden crust.

Galettes are like apple pies French cousin. It involves wrapping filling inside a pastry casing and can be both sweet and savory.

To note, I love anything with brown butter so adding it to this already incredible Apple Galette was genius! It creates an extra element of flavor which is always a plus.

Picking the right Apples

Similar to apple pie, a tart apple like granny smith are the best because they balance well with the sweetness in the brown sugar. I personally used a mix of granny smith and Gala apples as this was what I had.

What is Brown Butter?

Brown butter is amazing period! Nick named liquid gold, it has a rich nutty taste that goes well with the apples and pastry but also pairs well with vegetables, in cakes and frostings.

Here is a video by America’s Test Kitchen which explains what Brown Butter is and how to make it at home.

Although many recipes usually call for unsalted butter, I personally like to use salted as the saltiness balances well with the sweetness of the apples.

Storing the Galettes

Galettes can be wrapped in foil or placed into a sealed container for up to 3 days on the counter and 5 days in the fridge.

Above all, making Galettes should definitely be on the list of things to eat in the winter. Add this dish to your next Sunday roast and indulge in the amazing flavors of fall.
