Quick Brown Stew Turkey Steaks
This Brown stew Turkey steak recipe is an easy way to have that comfort food feeling with half the fat and in half the time.

When we think of Caribbean food we think slow cooked on the fire for hours. Usually it is, but what if you don’t have a lot of time on your hands?
The turkey is both flavorful and tender and the whole meal was done in 1 hour (Give or take).
What Are Turkey Steaks
Turkey steaks are very popular over here in the UK. They are thickly sliced Turkey breast making a great alternative for those who want a leaner meat and who don’t eat lamb, pork or Beef.
The cuts are usually not very thick making cooking time really quick and easy.
Getting Tender Turkey Steaks
I personally like to stew turkey steaks these 2 ways:
The Pan Method:
Using a large deep pan works well with cooking turkey steaks. A Cast iron pan will give the meat a nice crust and color before adding any liquid. Once the liquid is added, cover and cook on low. This allows the meat to steam in the liquid bath which helps to soften the meat.
The Oven Method:
The oven is a great no fuss alternative when you don’t have time to watch the stove. Spread the Steaks across a roasting pan and top with the sliced onion and peppers. Mix the Ketchup and water with a little hot sauce and a drop of browning. Season to taste then cover with foil and cook on 350°F/240°C until fork tender.
Make it Even Healthier
This dish is pretty healthy as its loaded with fresh veg and lean meat, however there are always ways to make it even healthier:
- Substitute Ketchup for the no sugar no sodium version. It’s not as tasty, however you can add healthier alternatives in its place.
- Switch out the Ketchup for 2 or 3 tablespoons of tomato sauce or 2 fresh tomatoes cubed. Just make sure they cook down and thicken.

These Brown Stew Turkey Steaks are a quick and easy way to enjoy Caribbean flavors using lean turkey meat cooked in a brown stew sauce.

Wash and rinse Turkey Steaks in lime and water then pat dry.
Place the steaks into a bowl adding Green seasoning, All purpose seasoning, ground pepper and browning sauce. Massage into the meat then put in the onion, pepper and garlic. Mix well and let marinate for at least 20 minutes.
Heat a Large Cast iron or preferred pan with 3 tsp of oil on medium high heat. Put the Turkey meat only into the pan to brown for around 3 - 5 minutes on each side.
After the steaks have browned, turn the heat down to a medium then toss in the remaining onion, pepper and garlic. For quicker cooking, cover the pan with a lid to get the veg to soften for 7 minutes stirring periodically.
Once the Veg have become slightly cooked, add in the Ketchup and pepper sauce with water. Here, you can either mix into a bowl or pour directly into the pan. Mix well then turn the heat down to a medium low, cover with lid and cook until fork tender.
To Finish, taste and add in any additional seasonings then remove from the heat and serve.
