Crispy sesame cauliflower
Crispy sesame cauliflower is a great fake away Friday or Saturday night dinner.

This is hands down one of our favorite ways to eat Cauliflower. I buy them just for the sole purpose of making cauliflower bites. They taste amazing fried or baked and are a cleaver meat substitute with the added nutrients.

Although I am a meat eater, it is not uncommon for me to dabble into vegan life throughout the week. There is something special about creating tasty meatless dishes and its definitely a goal of mine.

Making Crispy Baked Cauliflower Bites

This dish is actually quite easy to make. Cut up the cauliflower into bite sizes and blanch in boiling hot water for about 25 -30 minutes.

In the meantime, create a batter from flour, vegan milk, water and seasonings. Also in a separate bowl, season the dried breadcrumbs.

Drain the cauliflower from the water and toss into the batter then put into the breadcrumbs before placing them onto a baking tray. Let them set for 5 -7 minutes before baking.

Bake in a 350F/150C oven for 20 – 25 minutes or until the coating becomes golden brown.

Making the Honey Sesame Sauce

Sesame sauce calls for simple ingredients: soy sauce, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, vinegar, ketchup, chili paste and brown sugar. These bites are darker because I only had dark soy sauce in the house so remember the lighter the soy sauce, the lighter the color.

In a saucepan add oil, and finely chopped ginger and garlic. Following, pour in all the liquid ingredients while mixing corn starch with a little water. The corn starch can also be combined with the other liquids ahead of time. At this time, cook until the sauce starts to thicken.

Finally pour over cauliflower bites and serve.

Storing Left Over Cauliflower Bites

Being honest here, these don’t keep for very long. One day is best as cauliflower does get soggy so I suggest eating them right away.

Tips on Making Honey Sesame Baked Cauliflower Bites

  • Break the cauliflower up into small/ medium pieces so they cook quicker. The bigger the pieces the more risk of them being raw in the middle
  • If the batter is a bit too much, try just dusting with flour for a healthier option.
  • For a lighter color, use light soy sauce.
  • This recipe is vegan apart from the honey. To make it completely vegan substitute the honey for agave or maple syrup.

These Sesame Cauliflower bites use Dark soy sauce for a richer color.

To sum things up. Its deliciously sticky, sweet, spicy and guaranteed to be a hit for your next weekend.
