How to make Citrus Spiced Cranberry Sauce
This homemade cranberry sauce will fill your home with the smell of holiday.

Making cranberry sauce from scratch is one of the easiest and quickest condiments to make.
Fresh cranberries are cooked with cinnamon, cloves and orange peel which give it an amazing flavor.
Choosing the right ingredients
This recipe uses fresh ingredients but if that is not accessible, use what you can find:
- Cinnamon stick – Gives the same intense flavor as the powder but can easily removed from the sauce.
- Whole cloves – Great flavor addition but more subtle than the powder so that it doesn’t overpower.
- Orange peel – Added citrus flavor that pairs really well with cranberry.
- Lemon juice – Balances out the sweet and tart flavors.
- Brown sugar – Rich sweetness with the edition of molasses.

Other ways to eat Cranberry sauce
Homemade cranberry sauce has more of a jam texture making it more versatile and great for desserts, pastries or as flavour additions to party snacks.
- Add this to your charcuterie board pairing with creamy cheeses like Brie and Camembert.
- Buy store bought puff pastry and make a tart with cranberry, brie, onion and rosemary similar to my Holiday Appetizer Shallot and Goats cheese tart.
- Use fresh cranberry in winter cakes and cookies for a sweet and tangy treat.
Storing Cranberry Sauce
Once your sauce has cooled place it in a mason jar or well sealed container and store it in the fridge. My last batch of sauce lasted me a whole year!
So next time you think about grabbing that tin of cranberry sauce off the shelf, opt for the fresh ingredients and make it yourself.
