How to Food Guide: Afternoon Tea at The Clermont Hotel Victoria

If your looking for class and sophistication that won’t break the bank then The afternoon tea at the Clermont Hotel Victoria is a great way to be posh on a budget.

Location

The Hotel is actually attached to Victoria Train station which is super convenient for both tourists and locals alike as V-station is one of the most frequent stations used. There are 2 entrances: The Bus Depot exit (next to Pret) and allong Buckingham Palace Road (the exit closer to platforms 15 – 19).

The Ambiance

The Oak room Lounge is where you will have your tea experience. A very open and airy room with modern vintage flair, richly dark walls and jewel tone furniture and neutral accents throughout.

The Lounge is definitely a place to take stunning photos for your socials with this classy vibe and simplistic design and also a great place for cocktails before heading home or going for a night out.

The Afternoon Tea

The menu was pretty straight forward with a small selection of teas and sandwiches but a lot of treats. Choose from 4 options of Afternoon tea from the Classic to Sharing and the addition of sparkling wine or Champagne.

We chose the classic Clermont Tea which serves 1- 2 people each and received 2 towers of goodies.

Here is a breakdown of what we had in order of each tier:

Tea or Coffee

Afternoon Tea is not just for Tea lovers. There are options for coffee as well. For the sake of it we all chose from a selection of their tea offerings. There were 7 options to which I chose the Darjeeling as it was something new for me personally.

The tea was lovely and they made sure to bring milk and any extras for the other selections ordered. I also ordered a coffee at the end of our experience which did not disappoint.

All the tea selections come loose in their individual porcelain tea pots. The matching tea cups and saucers also came with a tea strainer to keep the loose leaves out of your tea cup.

Savouries

There were 5 lush finger sandwiches to choose from in pretty classic flavor pairings. The fan favorite was the Smoked salmon & Cream cheese on brown bread and Cured ham & Wholegrain mustard on tomato bread.

I must mention the breads were a tad bit dry and Coronation Chicken on Onion bread was OK but not everyone is a fan of raisins in chicken salad and I would have loved more curry flavor to come through, however it is something I would definitely order again. The Cucumber on Brown bread however was my least favorite as it lacked flavour altogether.

Sweets

There was a lovely selection of sweets to chose from with something for everyone. My favorite was the Victoria sponge bite. Soft and moist it melted in your mouth. There was a beautiful Strawberry cake slice that was to die for as well.

On the contrary, the Chocolate and Orange tart was just ok. Neither great nor bad but they could have missed me with the Earl Grey tea Panna Cotta. Paired with a passion fruit compote of some sort, it didn’t really compliment the earl grey flavor in my opinion but everyone’s taste buds are different. I did like that it wasn’t too sweet but it wasn’t for me.

Scones

The scones were AMAZING! You had a choice of 1 plain and 1 with raisin paired with a lovely and rich clotted cream and 2 choices of jams. The scones were slightly sweet with a beautiful crunch on the outside and pillowy softness on the inside. They were so good I ordered another batch!

Service

To note, the service here was one of the best experienced. They were very attentive, accommodating and all very friendly. They surprised my daughter with a complimentary Clermont Hotel teddy bear since hearing it was her birthday, which was super thoughtful.

Great hospitality and service from all of the staff.

Price

What most are waiting for is the price of this experience right? It is super reasonable for such a lush experience at only £30 per person (£35 for alcohol offers). We also had a further 30% off using The Fork Restaurant Booking app so please get on this deal for an extra few pounds off!

Overall, we were very pleased with the whole experience and will definitely frequent this Tea lounge again as it has the best location and also really reasonably priced.
